Developer tail wag

Austin Free Press editors,

Kit O’Connell did an insightful story on the city’s new land-use policies governing development and light rail. In the 50 years I’ve been in Austin I’ve never seen a mayor and council supermajority act in such haste to sell out so thoroughly to developer interests.

“The tail wagging the dog” doesn’t adequately explain what is happening. The council hasn’t carefully studied impacts and determined what is good for people who live here now. Instead, they are focused solely on what is good for the special-interest rip-off known as Project Connect light rail. In the process, they put gentrification of East Austin on the fast track.
